Jon Shubert is a Presenter, Scientist, Teacher, Adventurer, Cycling World Record Holder and Bidlake Memorial Prize winner. In addition to having completed a human-powered circumnavigation of the planet traversing 66 countries, Jon is best known for becoming the first man in history to break cycling’s three-hour barrier for 100 miles, his British national titles and his results as an “outstanding” science teacher in one of the world’s most prestigious international schools. In 2021, Jon became a presenter for Global Cycling Network Plus (A subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery), featuring in tens of documentaries. Jon has recently written two books about his adventures around the planet.
In 2013 Jon embarked on his first major expedition – a 13-month, 19,000-mile, self-supported, bicycle journey around the planet. Only three weeks later, Jon pushed himself to the limit of human endurance to ride 518 miles in a single day and win the British 24-hour Cycling Time Trial championship. Over the past decade, Jon has continued to live a life filled with adventure and record-breaking exploits, now having cycled through 66 countries, set two world records, won two British Cycling Time Trial titles, and set six national trial records. In 2021 Jon became a presenter for Global Cycling Network Plus, featuring in tens of documentaries. Jon has written two books about his adventures around the planet which will be available in early 2024. A young athlete and science teacher, inspired by his adventurous grandfather, embarks on a transformative cycling journey with his friend Imran. They face danger, challenges, and personal growth across multiple continents. After over a year on the road, he returns home transformed and ready to prove himself as a national cycling champion.
Jon starred in his first professional documentary in 2018 with Kuwaiti production company Prismic Media, filming and producing “A Cycling World Record Across Oman”. In 2020, in his first appearance on GCN’s (Global Cycling Network’s) YouTube channel, Jon was captured, becoming the first man to break the illusive 3-hour barrier for cycling 100 miles. Recognised for his natural on-screen presence, Jon accepted a two year presenter role with GCN + (A subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, featuring 3.2 million subscribers and 1.1 billion total views on their channel). During his time at GCN+, Jon’s roles included Presenting, conceptualising, researching, scripting and co-ordinating film ideas. The major documentaries that incorporated Jon’s involvement can be found on their subscription channel, GCN+. Awarded The Bidlake Memorial Prize
The Bidlake Prize has been awarded annually, since 1934 for outstanding achievements in cycling, and it has been given to record-breakers, national, world and Olympic champions, and to many dedicated men and women.
The 2020 Bidlake Memorial Prize was awarded to ‘Jon Shubert, 2019 British Best All-Rounder for his remarkable “straight out” RRA 100 mile record in a time of two hours and 57 minutes and 58 seconds, becoming the first cyclist under the three hour barrier.’

Jon travels to the UK from Oman to set a new Cycling Time Trials 12-hour team record with Michael Broadwith and Tim Bayley and in doing so, the trio become the first team to hold both the 24-hour and 12-hour records since 1955.
Wins individual silver in the Cycling Time Trials’ 24-hour Championship and with Michael Broadwith and Tim Bayley, they break the 36-year-old British team record by over 100 miles.
After a two year hiatus from competition and now living permanently in Oman, Jon is signed by the UK based Arctic Tacx Race Team.
Wins the Cycling Time Trials’ National 24-hour Time Trial Championship only three weeks after returning from his Around The World Journey.
Undertakes a 13 month, life altering circumnavigation of the planet by bicycle, covering 19,000 miles, passing through 27 countries and three continents.
Racing for the High Wycombe Cycling Club Race Team, Jon achieves his best results to date under the guidance of coach Dr Gordon Wright, finishing fourth in British Best All- Rounder championship, fourth in the national team time trial and he covers 295 miles in 12 hours to record the ninth furthest distance in British Cycling Time Trial history.
